Brigid McKay passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at age 87 surrounded by her loving family.
Brigid is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret McKay, and brothers and sisters Mae Foss, Eleanor, (James) Redmond, Kitty McKay, Marguerite “Peg” (Dr. James) Canavan, Ann, (Bill) Beilfuss, Bernadette L., (Steve) Gniadecki, and Jack, James, Richard and George McKay.
As a young woman, Brigid loved to travel. She also was chosen to be in a Chicago St. Patrick’s celebration queen’s court. After returning to Chicago from nursing school, she devoted her life to service in the care of others, particularly her parents and brother, Jim. Additionally, her heart and home were opened to numerous rescued dogs, and many recall her welcoming weekly family gatherings.
Her family is grateful to the Memory Care Team at Plymouth Place, Dr. Anthony DeLorenzo, Angels Grace Hospice and the amazing private duty Caregivers from Avid Health.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to an animal rescue society of your choice.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at Sacred Heart Church, 8245 W. 111th St. Palos Hills at 11:30a.m. until time of Mass 12:15p.m. on Saturday May 30, 2026. Interment St. Mary Cemetery.
